Unifit Metalloys Inc. is a prominent trader of SS 317 / 317L Washers, which are more resistant to marine atmospheres. Stainless Steel 317 Flat Washers can be welded by shielded fusion and resistance methods, but oxyacetylene welding should be avoided to prevent carbon pick up in the welds. Certain applications specify the use of Stainless Steel 317L Lock Washers where increased resistance to aqueous corrosion is needed. The hardness and strength of SS 317 Sealing Washers can be increased through cold working. Full annealing of SS 317L Split Washers is required after cold work to remove internal stress.

The destructive scaling temperature for 317 Stainless Steel Slot Washers is about 2000 Degree F (1093 Degree C). When heated between 1202 Degree F – 1742 Degree F (650 Degree C – 950 Degree C), 317L Stainless Steel Machine Washers is subject to sigma phase precipitation. Alloy 317 Star Washers does not react to heat treatment, because the strength and hardness of this alloy can be increased by cold working.

A light cold rolling pass is added after anneal for Alloy 317L Spring Washers with polished rolls giving it a brighter finish. An accumulation of weld seams should be avoided, where Stainless Steel UNS S31700 Washers have to be affixed with relatively shorter distances from each other (significantly shorter than these of non-alloyed steels), in order to prevent strong deformation, shrinking or flaking tack welds.
